David Banner is an American Hip-Hop artist who rose to fame via his album, Mississippi: The Album.

David Banner or "Levell Crump" in real life was born on April 11, 1973 at Jackson, Mississippi to "Zeno Crump Jr", former District Fire Chief. David studied in Provine High School. After graduating, he attended his college years in Southern University in Baton, Rouge, Louisiana. While studying, he became the president of The Student Government Association. After graduating from College, David produces some Hip-Hop albums. He became one of the members of the group, Crooked Lettaz. The group separate ways in 2000. David went solo and released his debut album, Firewater Boyz, Vol. 1 on that same year. His next album, Mississippi: The Album was issued in 2003. The album chartered at #9 on the Bilboard Charts and #15 on U.S. Rap Albums Chart. In 2005, he issued his next album, Certified under Universal Records. The Album landed at #7 on U.S. Hot 100 Albums Chart, #5 on U.S. R&B and #3 on U.S. Rap Albums Chart. His latest album, The Greatest Story Ever Told was released last July 15, 2008. It features the single, "Speaker".
