About

Darren Hayes (born on May 8, 1972 in Logan City, Brisbane Australia) is the youngest among three children of Robert and Judy Hayes. He attended Mable Park Infants then Mable Park High School and lastly University of Queensland where he first studied Journalism and then switched to Education and completed the course. His musical inclination was observed eversince he was a kid and often held performances witnessed by his mom, who became his most avid fan at that time. His musical career began when he first joined an audition seeking for a vocalist for a local band named Red Edge with Daniel Jones. But the group broke-up in 1994 after failing to acquire a recording contract. Hayes and Jones began to reformed a band which they named Crush but the latter name was already existing in the UK, so they ended naming their band as Savage Garden in 1996 which was taken from Anne Rice's novel The Vampire Chronicles.

Soon, the duo became extremely popular in the business after the release of their phenomenal hit singles Truly Madly Deeply, I Want You and I Knew I Loved You and their debut album Savage Garden became the best-selling album in 1997. It was the same year when Darren married his high school sweetheart, Corby Taylor. But the marriage only lasted for 2 years and led to divorce in 1999. But just like other musical groups, Savage Garden split in 2001 after releasing two amazing albums which have been sold for more than 20 Million copies worldwide. After the break-up of Savage Garden, Darren went on to create two solo albums, Spin in March 2002 and The Tension and the Spark in September 2004, both under Sony Music Records. The first album contains the hit singles Insatiable, Strange Relationship, Crush (1980 Me) and I Miss You that performed well on both UK and Australian charts. The second album contains the track I Forgive You produced by Madonna collaborator Marius De Vries. The Tension and the Spark was produced by Darren himself and Robert Conley (his co-producer in Crush (1980 Me) single). It's first single Popular reached top position on U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in February 2005.

In the attemp to promote The Tension and The Spark album, Darren toured some parts of Europe, Australia and Asia with his Dark Light Tour held in November 2004 until early 2005. He also participated in New York's World Tsunami Benefit Concert in January 2005 and performed at Lesbian and Gay Mardi Gras Party in Australia on March 5, 2005.

In June 19, 2006, Darren registered his civil partnership with Richard Cullen (his boyfriend of two years) in the UK and revealed the said ceremony in his website on July 17, 2006. Darren also commend the UK government for this civil liberty.

While residing in London, England, Hayes have recorded and finished his third solo album titled This Delicate Thing We've Made. The album is a double-disc record comprising of 25 tracks which he co-wrote some of its tracks with Robert Conley.
