Dani California is the single from the ninth album, Stadium Arcadium . The song was written by Kiedis, Frusciante, Flea and Smith. It is one of the fastest selling single by the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Dani California was released on April 28, 2006 in Europe. May 1, 2006 in U.K. and May 2, 2006 in U.S. It was recorded at the Mansion in Los Angeles, CaliforniaThe single peaked no.1 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart. It is the second song in the history that peaked on Billboard Modern Rock chart. The song Dani California is all about the death of "Dani", the character from their hit singles "By the Way" and "Californication". The single reached no.2 on the U.K. Chart and no.6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The single has been nominated for Billboard Music Awards and has six nominations in 2007.

Another unique video of the Red Hot Chili Peppers which was directed by Tony Kaye, the acclaimed director of American History X. The video showed a brief summary of the rock history, showing different eras and looks of rock music and how it developed through time. The group wore several different outfits and they performed on stage. They also imitated Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, it was a form of tribute to Cobain. They showed British look, psychedelia, funk, glam, punk, goth, hair metal and grunge, the video ended with the band performing their song.

  • "Dani California" was feautured in the Japanese film Death Note as its theme song.
  • "Dani" means a representation of every girl that Kiedis has come across in his life.
  • Don Jantzen from the Houston radio station played "Dani California" continuously for his entire three hour show.
