DMX is an American Hip-Hop artist and at the same time an actor. He is the 6th best selling rapper of all time selling more than 20 million records in the United States.

Rapper/Actor DMX was born as Earl Simmons on December 18, 1970 in Baltimore, MD. At a young age, his family moved to the suburbs of Yonkers, New York. DMX had an abusive chilhood and turned into a violent man. He lived in group homes and made money out of robbery which made him run from the law. Rapping change his life. He started out as a DJ and a human beatbox. He was became well-respected in the freestyle battle scene. Ruffhouse signed him in and released his debut single "Born Loser". The label didn't promote DMX and decided to discontinue his contract. In 1994, he made another single "Make A Move". At the same year he was convicted of drug possession.
DMX went back to the music scene and appeared on DJ Clue's mixtapes. In 1997, he was given a contract with Def Jam Records. He made an appearances on LL Cool J's "4, 3, 2, 1", Mase's "24 Hours to Live" and LOX's "Money, Power & Respect". In 1998, he released "Get at Me Dog" under Def Jam. The singles entered charts and was a hit success. At the same year he released his debut album, It's Dark And Hell Is Hot. The album was produced by Swizz Beatz. DMX was now compared to rappers with big names. It's Dark and Hell Is Hot sold over 4 million copis. DMX was accussed of raping a stripper in the Bronx. The accusation was not true proven by a DNA evidence. He made his acting debut on the film Belly.
In 1998, he published his second album, Flesh Of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood, with the controversial picture of the rapper covered in blood. The album went straight to no.1 and went triple Platinum. The next year DMX went on tour with Jay-Z and Method Man/Redman on the Hard Knock Life tour. In Denver during the tour, DMX was arressted for a connection with a stabbing, he was later on cleared. In May, the rapper was accused of assault but the charges were dropped. That summer, when his manager was accidentally shot in the foot the police raided DMX's home and charged him for animal cruelty, weapons, and drug possession. He plea-bargained and left with fines, probation, and community service.
End of that year, he released his third album, ...And Then There Was X, which was another no.1 album. The singles "Get at Me Dog" and "Party Up (Up in Here)" entered the top ten of the R&B Charts. With the help of "What You Want" and "What's My Name?" the album sold over five million copies. After the album's success, DMX went back on screen on the action flick Romeo Must Die starring Jet Li. He also appeared on Steven Seagal's Exit Wounds. The hit single "No Sunshine" was included in the soundtrack.
In 2001, his fouth album, The Great Depression, was his fourth straight album to debut at #1. The album also went Platinum. In 2002, DMX, published E.A.R.L.: The Autobiography of DMX. The rapper had another film, Cradle 2 The Grave, with Jet Li. The single "Here I Come" was included in the film's soundtrack. Six months later, Grand Champ was released followed by Year of the Dog... Again in August 2006.
