Cyndi Lauper was one of the biggest stars of the early MTV era, selling five million copies of her debut album, She's So Unusual. and a hit single "Girls Just Want to Have Fun".

Cyndi Lauper was born on June 22, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York. Cyndi was a high school dropped out because she chooses to sing in a local band instead of schooling. Cyndi studied her voice lesson from Katherine Agresta, a well-known vocal teacher in New York. In 1977, keyboardist, John Turi and Cyndi formed a duo called Blue Angel. Over the next few years, the duo released their debut album Blue Angel but the record was a flopped, afterwards, Cyndi filed for bankruptcy which led to the disbandment of the said duo.
After the disbandment, Cyndi performed in local clubs and restaurants. In 1983, Cyndi and her manager and boyfriend David Wolff signed a recording contract with Portrait Records. At the end of the year, she released her first album, She's So Unusual and first single "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" became an instant hit in 1984, climbing to number four spot on the U.S. Charts. The album was a five times platinum, and it was also a hit in U.K. and Europe. Her next single, "Time After Time" reached the number one spot and her other two singles, "All Through The Night" and "She Bop" peaked into Top Ten Charts.
Because of the success of her album, Cyndi became an instant big star. In 1985, her single, "The Goonies R' Good Enough" was released which became the movie theme song of a children's adventure film "The Goonies".
In 1986, Cyndi's next album, True Colors was released, the title track went number one, her album climbed to number four spot and went platinum but because of the adult contemporary sound, she lost some of her fans.
Cyndi's first starring role was the 1988's comedy "Vibes Bombed" was a big flopped. Her third album, A Night to Remember, and her single, "I Drove All Night" despite being at the top ten, its sales was very disappointing. The next year, she divorced David Wolff and married an actor, David Thorton.
In 1993, after a few years of inactive in the music industry, she released her next album, Hat Full of Stars that she produced and wrote all the tracks. The record was not a hit, peaking only at number 112 in the Charts. The next year, she released her first compilation album, Twelve Deadly Cyns..And Then Some in the United Kingdom, and reached number two, while a remixed of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" became number one.
In 1997, her first album under a new material was released, but despite of getting positive reviews, it was not a big hit. In 1998, she released her first Christmas album, Merry Christmas. Have a Nice Life!.
She returned to her former studio in 2003 for her album, At Last, which contained a collection of Pop Standards that garnered positive reviews. In 2005, she released another compilation album, The Body Acoustic that was a collection of her previous hits.
