Cradle of Filth is an English extreme metal band from Suffolk formed in 1991. [edit] About
The first three years of the group saw them record three demo CDs and a rehearsal tape recorded amidst several line-up changes. The band have more than twenty musicians in its colorful history also recorded an unreleased album entitled Goetia prior to the third demo and their style shift.
Just about when Goetia was set to be released, everything was wiped out after its record label decided to go out of business. Subsequently, they signed to Cacophonoous records and released their debut album "The Principle of Evil Made Flesh" on 1994. The album was considered as a step up in terms of production. The album gained recognition and was well-received by many. By June 2006, the group found its way into Metal Hammer's list of the top ten black metal albums of the last twenty years.
When their relationship with Cacophonous soon went sour, both parted ways. The band accused the label of contractual and financial mismanagement. They went on a legal battle on most parts of 1995, and the band finally signed to Music for Nations on 1996 thereby releasing their next albums up to the present times.
Today, the band has released a total of eight albums and they have been named as the most successful British heavy metal band since Iron Maiden.
