Radio friendly hard rock band, Collective Soul, is a line taken from Ayn Rand's book The Fountainhead. The Stockbridge, Georgia rock band is compared to Live, Bush and Candlebox. Collective Soul's warm melody is a combination of the '70's and '90's style.

In the 1990's, in Stockbridge, Georgiam Ed Roland lead vocals/keyboards/guitars), guitarists Dean Roland and Joel Kosche, and rhythm section Will Turpin (bass/percussion) and Shane Evans (drums/percussion) formed an alternative rock group called the Collective Soul. In 1993, they released Hints Allegations And Things Left Unsaid under Rising Storm. The band became an instant hit on the radio and with the support of MTV the single "Shine" made its way to the charts. The album also went Platinum.

In 1994, Collective Soul played with Aerosmith and at the Woodstock. In 1995, they issued their self-titled follow-up album. The singles "World I Know" and "December" were a big hit. The album went multi-platinum. In 1997, Disciplined Breakdown went Platinum gaining them more fans and in 1999, Dosage was released. Competition stirred up for the band since there were a lot of new nu-metal band rising. In 2000, the album, Blender was a new image for the band. They wanted to achieva a clean-cut look and they mixed a dance-pop genre. In 2001, Collective Soul made a compilation of their greatest hits, which resulted to 7even Year Itch: Collective Soul's Greatest Hits 1994-2001. In 2004, Youth was released with added new guitar player, Joel Kosche.
