Chutes Too Narrow is the The Shins follow up of their breakthrough album Oh, Inverted World. It has a much cleaner sound from the latter mainly due to the mixed by producers The Shins themselves and Phil Ek who has worked producing albums with Modest Mouse and Built To Spill.

Chutes Too Narrow was released on October 21, 2003 by Sub Pop Records. The title of the album was mainly derived from a lyric in the song "Young Pilgrims". Generally, the album was well accepted selling over 393,000 copies to date.

The album spawned two singles. First of which is "So Says I" released on September 21, 2003. The song's lyrics are a critque of both the communist and capitalist systems. While the second is "Fighting in a Sack" released on December 14, 2004 by Universal.
