About
China Crisis was formed in 1979 at Kirby, Merseyside by "Gary Daly" and "Eddie Lundon". Their first single, "African and White" was released in 1981. It was followed by their next single, ""Scream down at Me" which was released in 1982. They added "Gary Johnson" and "Kevin Wilkinsop" to the line-up and singed a recording contract under Virgin Records.
In December 1982, their debut album, Difficult Shapes & Passive Rhythms, Some People Think It's Fun to Entertain was released. A reissued of their first single, "African and White" became the first hit single of the band, which chartered #12 in the UK Singles Chart. The album also features the singles, "No More Blue Horizons" and "Christian" which landed at #12 in the UK Singles Chart. The album reached #21 at the UK Albums Chart.
In 1983, two singles, "Tragedy and Mystery" and "Working with Fire and Stell" were released. These are all included in their second album, Working with Fire and Steel Possible Pop Songs, Vol. 2, which was released in November 1983. Their next single, "Wishful Thinking" became the band's greatest hit, which chartered at #3 in the UK Singles Chart. Another single, "Hanna Hanna" reached #44 in the UK Singles Chart.
Their third studio album, Flaunt The Imperfection was released in 1985 and chartered #9 at the UK Albums Chart. It features the singles, "Black Man Ray" which landed at #14 in the UK Singles Chart, "You Did Cut Me" and "The Highest High". Their next album, What Price Paradise was released in 1986 and chartered at #63 in the UK Albums Chart. It spawned two singles, "Arizona Sky" and "Best Kept Secret".
After an extended hiatus, the band regrouped in 1989 and released their next album, Diary of A Hollow Horese. It features the single, "Red Letter Day". In 1990, their compilation album, Collection was released. After that, they were disbanded due to financial reasons. They reformed in September 1994 and added "Terry Adams" and "Mark Phythian" in their line-up. They released their next album, Warped By Success in that same year. It produced three singles, "Everyday The Same" and "Without The Love" and "Hard To Be Around". Their next studio album, Acoustically Yours was released in 1995 with the single, "Black Man Ray".
