About
A group of students from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois formed their own band, namely, Walter Parazaider who was born on March 14, 1945; trumpeter Lee Loughnane born on October 21, 1946 and trombonist James Pankow, born on August 20, 1947. They used to play gigs at nightclubs. They met Terry Kath, and drummer Danny Seraphine, Robert Lamm for keyboard and Peter Cetera for bass. After performing at some clubs, they moved to Los Angeles, California.
With the help of their friend and manager, James William Guercio, they signed a recording contract under Columbia Records' and took a name of Chicago Transit Authority. The group released their first album, The Chicago Transit Authority. After the released of their first album, they changed their name to Chicago.
The band became famous upon the released of their second album, Chicago II. It was the group’s breakthrough album. Their career went to a low point when they had released a quadruple live album set. The group went popular again when they released their first single-disc, Chicago V. The disc reached number one on billboard charts. Tneir 1973 released album, Chicago VI reached the topped charts. One of their album, Chicago VIII released was featured in Harry Truman. Other successful albums were released in the following years.
The year 1978 was not a good year for the band. Their long time manager James split with them. In late January, Terry died of an accidental self-inflected gunshot wound. Terry was replaced by Donnie Dacus. The following year, they released their biggest selling album, Chicago 17 with two top 10 singles, You're The Inspiration and Hard Habit To Break. Peter Cetera left the band to concentrate more on his solo career.
Peter was replaced by Jason Scheff. The band wrote and recorded their 22nd album, Sisyphus in 1992. Dawayne left the band in 1995 and was replaced by Keith Howland. The band released their album, Night and Day Big Band in 2006.
