About

Cherish, produced by Madonna and long-time collaborater Patrick Leonard ("Live to Tell", "Who's That Girl"), was released as a single worldwide in August 1989. In the United States, the song peaked at the number two position, where it remained for two weeks; it was also a top-five hit in Australia, Europe, Ireland, Japan, and the United Kingdom. "Cherish" was also Madonna's third number one US adult dontemporary hit (after "Live to Tell" and "La Isla Bonita") while failing to enter the US dance charts, a rarity for a Madonna single.

Cherish is about passion, love and the yearning for something "more than just romance". Played in D major and accompanied by lush synthesized strings and a bright bass chorus, the song received a positive reception from music critics.
