Carolyn Dawn Johnson was born on April 30, 1971 in Grande Prairie, Alberta to John Johnson who works as a farmer and operator of seed-cleaning business and to Loretta Johnson. At an early age, she started playing piano and sang in church. The family moved to Westlock, Alberta. Carolyn studied in RF Staples High School.
After graduating in High School, Carolyn took up in Biology in Trinity Western University in British, Columbia and later on, she transferred in Edmonton, Alberta and took up Education. She took up Music in Columbia Academy.
Carolyn signed a recording contract under Arista Nashville in 1999. She released her debut album, Room With A View in 2001. Her second album, Dress Rehearsal was released in 2004. It debuted at number 9 on Billboard Country Album charts. In 2006, she released Love Negotiation.
