By the Way is the eighth album by The Red Hot Chili Peppers. It's opening sales were the best in The Red Hot Chili Peppers' career, until Stadium Arcadium took over.

By the Way is an album released by The Red Hot Chili Peppers on July 9, 2002, by Warner Bros.

When released, the album reached #2 on the Billboard Top 100, and was a smash hit in many countries. By the Way is the Chili Peppers' most melodic album to date. Because of the change from funk-rock to pop-rock, the album was disliked by some fans. During the recording of the album, the group was feeling some tension, as guitarist, John Frusciante played a major role in recording and writing many of the songs.
