About
Brandi Carlile was born on June 1, 1981 in Ravensdale, Washington. She grew up in the area, in which no other house other than theirs stood. As a child, she taught herself how to sing and how to play the piano and the guitar. In order to practice and enhance her skills, she performed live as often as she could. She worked as a back-up singer for an Elvis Presley impersonator, and later began playing live in restaurants, weddings, and birthday parties, along with her band (twins Tim and Phil Hanseroth).
In 2004, she was signed to Columbia Records, and the following year, Brandi Carlile released her debut album Brandi Carlile (album). Some of the songs in the album were recorded in Brandi's home in Washington throughout 2004. Those previously recorded songs plus some newly made ones comprise the 10 tracks in the album. Such unique music combined with her expressive voice and diverse influences led Rolling Stone to feature her as one of their 10 Artists to Watch in 2005.
Her sophomore album, The Story, was released this April 2007. Two other versions of the album are available - a digipak and a vinyl version.
