Not everyone has had a number 1 hit at the tender age of 13 and earns a place in the Guiness Book of Records for it. But for Bow Wow, the accomplishments did not stop there. To date, Bow Wow has released six solo albums and has starred in hit movies like Like Mike and The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift.

Bow Wow’s real name is Shad Gregory Moss. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio and was born on March 9, 1987 to parents Alfonso and Teresa Moss. Bow Wow started rapping at the age of 5 and used the stage name Kid Gangsta. In 1993, he was discovered by Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre while performing at a Chronic Tour in Columbus. The two rappers gave him the name Lil’ Bow Wow and later on introduced him to Jermaine Dupri who eventually became his mentor.

His career went on a fast track from then on by becoming an opening act to Dr. Dre and landing a spot on the Death Row Record’s roster of artists. He also appeared on Snoop Dogg’s single Doggystyle. Bow Wow released his debut album in 2000 entitled Beware of the Dog which includes his first number 1 hit Bounce With Me. This was soon followed by other chart topping albums such as Doggy Bag in 2001, Unleashed in 2003 and Wanted in 2005. His latest album The Price of Fame was released on December 2006 and already has a number 9 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with its first single Shortie Like Mine. Aside from his own albums, Bow Wow also contributed to Will Smith’s album Wild Wild West of which Smith has a movie of the same title, and was featured on artists song and album such as Jojo’s song Baby It’s You , and Miss Nana’s album I Got The Hood, Volume I. He is set to release a new album in 2007 entitled Remember/Sincerely

[edit] Bow Wow on TV, Movies and Fashion

By 2003, Bow Wow has dropped “Lil’” from his name as a step to becoming a more mature artist and not only has taken the music world by storm but also movies, television and even fashion. He has appeared on Brandy’s TV sitcom, Moesha, The Steve Harvey Show, and the TV series Smallville, and has done TV commercials for Twix, Chewits Campbells, and Verbs. His cartoon HomeBoyz is set to premiere on MTV on December 2006/January 2007. Bow Wow has starred on his own hit movie Like Mike and was also part of the Johnson Family Vacation with the famous singer/actress, Vanessa Williams and R&B singer-songwriter, Solange Knowles, Roll Bounce and just recently The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift. Bow Wow also owns his own clothing line called Shago and a shoe store called The Prestigious.

  • Bow Wow is a straight A student.
  • His nickname is Bow Weezy and is also know as Mr. 106 & Park and Prince Of Hip-Hop.
  • Bow Wow’s father left them when he was very young. His mother remarried and he has two step sisters.
  • His step-father’s name is Rodney and his stepsisters name are Erica and Jasarah
  • He and another R&B artist Ciara used to date and was even rumored to be engaged when Ciara arrived at the 2005 MTV Music Awards wearing a big ring on her finger. Both denied the allegations.
  • Bow Wow is 5 feet and 7 inches tall.
