About
Blu Cantrell (Tiffany Cobb) was born on October 1, 1976 in Providence, Rhode Island. At a young age Blu watched her mother perform night after night at jazz clubs since they couldn't afford to hire a babysitter. At a young age she started to write music to heal her pains. She found inspiration from Billie Holiday, Sade, Sting, Prince, Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston.
It all started in Atlanta when she performed for executives from RedZone Entertainment. She started out as a background vocalists for P. Diddy and Faith Evans. It was Artista Records who signed her in. In 2001, Blu released he debut album, So Blu. The funky and jazzy single, "Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)" went straight to #2 at the Billboard Hot 100. The album was a certified Platinum selling over 800,00 copies in U.S. alone. She was nominated at the Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. In 2003, her follow-up album, Bittersweet was released. Blu Cantrell is planning to release her third album in 2007.
