One of the most popular bands in 2005, Bloc_Party or formerly known as "Union" are a British Indie rock band who rose to fame via their hit album, Silent Alarm.

Bloc_Party was formed in 2002 which consists of "Keke Okereke" as the lead singer, "Russell Lissack" on guitar, "Gordon Moakes" on bass and "Matt Tong" on drum. Russell and Keke were raised in Essex. Keke was enrolled at Ilford Country High School while Russel attended at Bancroft's school. The two met at the Reading Festival in 1999 and soon formed a band named "Union". Matt and Gordon soon join the band and eventually changed their name to Bloc_Party. Their demo and concerts began to attract attention from press and then peers. In 2003, Keke sent a copy of their demo to "Franz Ferdinand", Franz invite the group to perform at the Domino Tenth Anniversary bass on the fall of 2003.
They released their first single, "She's Hearing Voices" in 2004 under Trash Aesthetics. A few months later, another single, "Banquet" was out under Moshi-Moshi. They signed a recording contract under Wincheta Recordings in 2004. Their debut album, Silent Alarm was released in 2005, which broke the sales records. The album reached #3 at the UK Albums Chart. If features the single, "So Here We Are" which chartered at #5 on the UK Singles Chart. The album sold more than 350,000 copies in the United States alone and over a million worldwide.
The band became one of the most popular bands in 2005. Their second album, A Weekend in The City was released in February 6, 2007 and debuted at #12 in the Billboard 200. Their single, "The Prayer" was released on January 29, 2007. They issued their other single, "Hunting For Witches" in August 2007 with an accompanying video clip.

- Bloc_Party provided quite a lot of the music for the film "This Revolution", a film about a news cameraman investigating the black bloc anarchists at a protest march in the United States.
- The song, "This Modern Love" is featured on the trailer for the movie He Was a Quiet Man.
- The song "Banquet" was used in the film De battre mon coeur s'est arrĂȘtĂ© (The Beat That My Heart Skipped).
