About

R&B all female group, Blaque, is often compared to the trio TLC. The trio is composed of Natina Reed born in New York on October 1979, Shamari Fears born in Detroit, Michigan on February 22, 1980 and Brandi Williams also born in Detroit Michigan on October 5, 1982.

The trio began when Reed went to the same high school with Fears at Atlanta Georgia. At that time, Fears was involved with a girl group called Intrigue. The got a chance of fame when they signed in with Elektra Records. Shortly, Fears left the group and tried her luck with Blaque Ivory but it was shortened to Blaque later on. The two met Ronald Lopes, brother of TLC’s Lisa when they were singing a jingle to earn extra bucks. At a local talent show, Fears and Reed met Williams. When the trio was set, Blaque signed in with Columbia Records.

Blaque released their self-titled debut album in 1999 with the production of Trackmasterz and R. Kelly. It included their hit singles “808” and their version of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time”. They were so great that they weren’t considered a copy of TLC anymore but as a new group. Currently, Blaque switched to Elektra Records and added a new member, Erica Pullins.
