About

The success of this set of four hip-hop artists began in year 1989. When will.i.am and apl.de.ap started rapping and performing together after they signed to Ruthless Records, managed by Eazy–E, they caught the attention of the nephew of Jerry Heller (Eazy-E’s manager). They first called their group as 'Atban Klann' with their third member, Dante Santiago. But they never had the opportunity to release their first album entitled “Grass Roots” since Ruthless did not consider their debut to be hitting the charts.

The group was reformed and changed their name as 'Black Eyed Pods' after the death of their owner Eazy-E due to AIDS associated illness. The group eventually changed their name to Black Eyed Peas for the reason that will.i.am considered their group as the food for the soul – as explained on the front cover of their Monkey Business album. Dante Santiago was then replaced by Taboo (real name: Jaime Gomez) together with Kim Hill as their steady background singer. But in year 2000, Kim Hill departed the band and was replaced by Stacey Ferguson who is also known as Fergie and became their new female vocalist and contributed a lot to their first breakthrough album “Elephunk” that was released in 2003. From this album came the group’s first major hit to the music industry with their anti-war anthem “Where is the Love?”, a song considered as a protest against the Iraq war. As this song hit the airwaves, it also provide the group’s biggest-selling single for that year. This hit single was then followed by the song which viewers considered as the most vacuous, pointless, despicable and generally nasty song for the generation but actually topped the charts in many other European countries including France and Germany and this song is actually entitled as “Shut Up”. It was during this album when the group began hitting the charts which actually gave them a 4x platinum selling and become widely known across the globe and actually initiates their first major concert.

The next music journey of BEP became more challenging as they discover their own talents and putting it altogether with their fourth album, “Monkey Business” which again, hit the airwaves. The album is considered to be a Musical journey since it actually fulfills their difficult task in recording and producing it while they were on their everlasting road trip. Together with A&M Records, the Black Eyed Peas turn out to be a Grammy Award Winner with this creative album which combines a wacky musical journey into the Latin rhythms, hip-hop beat plus humorous rhymes. This compilation also reflects on the things that really haunts the group and seems to be crippling them. Will.i.am once said: “You're always challenged not to go back to those bad habits in life,". "When you're comfortable living, you sometimes think that, well, I beat it once so I can do it again. But you never really escape the things that haunt you."” That’s why they started doing a more sophisticated writing that Will.i.am also considered as an album that was really about all of them building a house together. This is also the album where they first had their various songs in collaboration with different artists like Justin Timberlake, Sting, and Jack Johnson as well as with the “Godfather of Soul”, James Brown. Due to this deep fluid funk hits, the group become one of the world’s most beloved and respected singers and performers. Therefore, whenever and wherever they may go, their musical contribution will simply run from one generation to another.

Announcements

A rumor about Fergie, the only girl member of the R&B/Hip-hop group, hits the musical industry as the news spread that she is actually doing

a solo. With the release of her solo debut entitled “The Duchess” everybody wants to know the truth. However, according to Fergie’s updated

bio, she just considers it as a side project and definitely, will still be part of the group and of course, record with them.
