Bilal is jazz singer from Pennsylvania. He was a former member of the famous band Musical Collective. His debut album was 1st Born Second.

[edit] Early Life

Neo-soul singer Bilal (Bilal Sayeed Oliver) was born on August 23, 1979 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A jazz junkie ever since he was a child. Bilal took a step by performing at small clubs. He enrolled at Mannes Music Conservatory at New York where he was trained. Later on, he learned how to sing opera in seven different languages. In 1995 at a barber shop, Bilal befriended Faulu and Damu Mtume sons of the founder of Moyo Entertainment and encouraged him to record his songs.

In 2001, Bilal released his debut album, 1st Born Second. Bilal also worked with other neo-soul artist such as, Erykah Badu, Common and The Roots. He is also member of a collective called Soulquarians which included Mos Def, D’ Angelo, Q-Tip, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Erykah Badu. Bilal’s follow-up album, Love For Sale, was illegally released before its release fate on 2005.
