[edit] About

Rock and roll band Big Star originated in Memphis, Tennessee on 1971 by Chris Bell (singer/guitarist), Steve Ray (guitarist), Andy Hummel (bassist) and Jody Stephens (drummer). Ray left the band and was replaced by Chilton. All four worked on their songs. In 1967, the single "The Letters" crowned the pop charts. In 1972, the band issued its debut album, #1 Record, but it never appeared on stands.

In 1974, Big Star released their follow-up album, Radio City. The album was intense and spontaneous infused with the ragged-pop guitar. It had its fair share of classics namely "September Gurls" and "Back of a Car". Hummel left the band; replaced by John Lightman. The band quickly started working on their third album, Third/Sister Lovers. Unfortunately, Big Star dusbanded. In 1978, the four-year-late album was finally released. It got great critics and was it played a significant role on the pop movement. It influenced a number of bands today like R.E.M., Teenage Fanclub and The Replacements. In 1993, Big Star reunited at the University of Missouri, Chilton and Stephens played with Jonathan Auer and Ken Stringfellow from the Posies'. The tour went its way to Europe and Japan.

[edit] Reviews

Big Star helped contribute to the pop movement. The attention they got from the media was undeserved. Big Star should have promoted their beautiful and amazing music more. Big Star is a pop-icon that never got what they deserved. They have so much potential. --Mimi 01:38, 9 March 2007 (PST)
