About
The band was formed in San Diego, California, lead singer Quino was inspired by the various Latin American music styles and was exposed to Reggae at a young age of 13. Seeing Bob Marley on television, his love of reggae was born. He first joined the band called Shiloh in 1986, who released their first album three years later. By 1992, the band changed their name to Big Mountain', inspired by a mountain peak on a Navajoreservation in Arizona.
On that same year, they released their first album entitled Wake Up. Their first single named Touch My Light reached the Billboard Pop Charts, ranking number 40. A big accomplishment for an unknown reggae band. By 1993, they performed on the Reggae Splash USA Tour, a very exciting event for the band. Afterwards, they returned back to the studio to record. BUt having difficulties, like running out of money before the record was complete, was a total dilemma for the band. They have experienced line up changes as well. Replacing their guitarist many times, they finally settled for Jamaican guitarist, Tony Chin.
Their saving grace came in the form of film producer Ron Fair. Who produced the file 'Reality Bites. Fair asked the band if they were interested in making a record for the movie. Namely, the famous Peter Frampton song: Baby I Love Your Way. Sensing the opportunity, the band hired saxophonist Warren Hill to contribute. The collaboration was a great success, the song skyrocketed to the charts, making the band rise to superstardom overnight. With the new found notoriety, the band was able to finish their next album entitled Unity in 1994 under Warner Brothers. The band was able to tour as well around the world, with stints in Japan, South America, and Jamaica.
With a longstanding relationship between the bandmantes, their popularity still flourished till to this date. The band is currently in the studio creating their new sound for their upcoming album due to be released soon, no definite date yet but sure will be exciting to expect.
