[edit] About

Belinda Carlisle or "Belinda Jo Kurczesky" in real life was born on August 17, 1958 at Hollywood, California to "Walt Carlisle", a contractor and "Joanne Carlisle", a homemaker. Belinda is also the eldest of seven children. Belinda was raised in a strict home by her mother and her stepfather, after her biological father took off. A tomboy and a pretty good student, Belinda was part of the track and field team in her high school days. She was also a former high school cheerleader.

After graduating from high school in 1976, she began frequenting Hollywood's new wave and punk rock music clubs, where she met "Charlotte Caffey", "Jane Wiedlin", "Gina Schock", and "Kathy Valentine". They formed the girl band, Go-Go. Belinda became their lead singer. The band released hit singles like, "We Got the Beat," "Our Lips Are Sealed," and "Head Over Heels,". Their debut album, Beaty and The Best was also a hit. They were one of the first successful all female band of the 80's.

The band was disbanded in 1985. Belinda embarked on a successful solo career. She released her debut solo album, Belinda under I.R.S. Records in 1986. It features the hit singles, "I Feel the Magic" and "Mad About You". Belinda's career took a major turn when she left I.R.S Records and signed with MCA in the US and Virgin Records in the UK. Belinda had her first international stardom with the release of a new album in Heaven is a Place on Earth in 1987. This masterpiece of pop rock earned Belinda a Grammy nomination as well as a number one spot in the U.S. and the UK.

Her next album, Runaway Horses was released in 1989 and was another successful album. It spawned the hit singles "Leave a Light On" and "Summer Rain". In 1991, she released her fourth solo album, Live Your Life Be Free. A few months afterwards, she released greatest hit albums in the U.S., Australia, and the U.K.

Her next album, Real was released in 1993. Many of the songs on this album were co-written with fellow Go-Go Charlotte Caffey. The album's first single, "It's Too Real (Big Scary Animal)", failed to make any notice in the U.S. and very little overseas. In 1996, she released in the U.K. and Australia her sixth solo album, A Woman and A Man, under Chrysalis Records label. This album revitalized her solo career in Europe and spawned several hit singles, such as "In Too Deep", "Always Breaking My Heart", "Love in the Key of C" and "California".

In the summer of 1999 Belinda rejoined the Go-Go's and they launched a summer tour in the US. This turned out to be one of several shortterm reunions of the band that never quite had the steam of its earlier successes. In 2007, she released her next album, Voila after 10 years of absence in the music industry.
