[edit] About

Beck, also known as Beck David Hansen was born in July 08, 1970 in Los Angeles, California to a father David Campbell and performer Bibbe Hansen. Creativity somehow lies in the minds of the family, since maternal grandfather Al Hansen is the founding artist of a movement called Fluxus. Beck's brother Channing Hansen, followed the steps of their grandfather and became a Fluxus artist as well.

As a kid, Beck had very few friends, if any. He became busy developing his musical talent and in no time, he decided to make a living for himself, landing rather low-paying jobs and aiming for performances even in local clubs and coffee shops. Not so long after, he ends up with Bong Load Records and releases far-acclaimed debut album Loser in 1993. With the success of the said release, Geffen Records grabs brilliantly unique Beck.

He released Mellow Gold in 1994, that sold a good number of copies in the market. He was also able to issue two independent releases Stereopathetic Soul Manure and One Foot In The Grave, from Flipside and K labels respectively.

His major label following in 1996 Odelay received multiplatinum status and scored popularity thanks to the songs Where It's At and Deadweight. This success is followed by Mutations in 1998, that was originally for Bong Load Records, tension build up, but the record ended up as a joint-release of the two companies.

During that year too, Beck, together with Al Hansen held a visual arts exhibit that featured solo works and collaborations from the two.

The next two releases of now popular Beck exemplifies his visual arts talent and funk-driven music. Both of the albums were successful in terms of its positions in the charts and album sales.

In October of 2006, Beck released his latest album entitled The Information, an album that is said to have the distinct styles of Beck from previous success album Odelay. It also features a cover album that lets those who bought it to use their creativity in putting the stickers together and designing their own cover for the album.
