About
The band Bachelor Girl formed in 1992 when James Roche heard Tania Doko singing at a pub in Melbourne. Roche was creating a demo tape of a song he penned for another group named Girlfriend. When his original singer cancelled, he hired Doko as replacement. Tania was then 18 and attending Melbourne University taking her Bachelor Arts degree in Psychology and Criminology. The duo worked together part-time to make way for Tania to finish schooling. Then in 1997, Tania and James got serious and started to work full-time in search of a recording company. Performed several Melbourne gigs that soon caught the attention of Gotham/BMG Australia to secure them a record deal. They recorded and mixed most of their album's tracks in their studio at James' home. In November 1998, saw the release of their debut album Waiting For The Day which contains the single Buses and Trains that became an international hit, but due to subsequent releases it have only impacted the Australian charts. Buses and Trains went platinum (and so was Waiting For The Day) spending 33 weeks on ARIA (sales) charts and peaking at number 4 spot and was also voted Song Of The Year by APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association). The single Treat Me Good and Lucky Me have also landed on the ARIA Top 40 charts. Bachelor Girl also won Radio Industry Awards for both Best New Australian Artist and Most Popular Australian Chart Act on Commercial Radio. Bachelor Girl was finalists for four ARIA Awards and won ARIA for Producer Of The Year. The following years saw the releases of their subsequent albums titled Breaking Through From Down Under in 1999 and Dysfunctional in 2002.
Prior to Bachelor Girl, James Roche also wrote music for television and worked with co-artists' Christopher Cross, Glenn Frey and Tommy Emmanuel as a keyboardist and producer.
Bachelor Girl has already established a name in Australia. Having performed with Natalie Imbruglia and co-headlined an Australian tour with the Goo Goo Dolls. They also co-performed with the Eurythmics on a Peace Tour.
