The album was released on May 18, 1993 by Def Jam Records. It charted at #17 in the Billboard albums chart and #8 at the Top R&B albums chart. The album features three lead singles "Throw Ya Gunz" #1, "Slam" #1, and "Shiftee" #2 in the Billboard Hot Rap singles chart.
In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source Magazine's 100 Best Rap Albums.
