About

Metal band At The Gates began in Sweden and made their way around the world. In 1990 Tomas Lindberg (vocalist), Jonas Bjorler (bass), Anders Bjorler (guitar) and Adrian Erlandsson (drums) formed At The Gates. The band recorded Gardens of Grief under Dolores Label and toured extensively around Sweden. Later on they switched to Peaceville Records who released their debut album, The Red in the Sky Is Ours. In 1993, Martin Larsson replaced Svensson (guitar). With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness was issued followed by the band touring in U.K. with Cradle of Filth and Anathema.

In 1994, Terminal Spirit Disease album made the band more notable in the death metal scene. It was followed by Slaughter for the Soul in 1995. Just when At the Gates were at the peak of their success (nominated for the Swedish Grammy’s and received MTV’s Headbanger’s ball) the group decided to disband in 1996. The twins, Erlandsson and Bjorler, formed the Haunted and Lindberg began Hide.

Reviews

At the Gates singles has a melodic feel but tends to be brutal and straightforward. The band’s vocals are into the early death metal. They use fast morbid music and dark melody to create the alienated worlds of heavy music. -Mimi 07:35, 26 September 2007 (PST)
