Ashanti is an American R&B singer, who rose to fame during the early 2000s as a featured singer on many hip hop songs before releasing her first albums.

About

Ashanti Shaquoya Douglas was born on October 13 1980, in Glen Cove, NY. She gave up a track scholarship to Hampton University to pursue her singing career. Ashanti was discovered at a talent show in 1994, and started singing with musicians like Ja Rule, Big Pun and Fat Joe. Three of her singles, "Foolish," Ashanti was named favorite new artist in both the pop, rock and R&B categories at the 30th annual American Music Awards in January, 2003. [[Ashanti is now working on her follow up album, Chapter II. Ashanti is also busy acting, portraying Dionne Warwick in "Silent Night", a Christmas themed episode of NBC's period drama American Dreams, and starring in the remake of the 1976 film, Sparkle.
