About

The history of this four-piece singing group dates back in 1989 when Soren Rasted and Claus Norreen were working as budding producers for a soundtrack of a Danish film Fraekka Frida. Together with Rene Dif, they decided they wanted to work on a project in the future. This is where Norwegian singer Lene Grawford Nystrom entered the picture and together they were called Joyspeed. Their first and only single as a band, "Itzy Bitsy" barely stayed in the airwaves and thus they reinvented themselves as Aqua.

As 'Aqua, they landed a recording contract under Danish label Universal Music from which they released their first single "Roses Are Red" in 1996. Their follow-up single "My Oh My" became a mainstay club song and earned the band a Gold Certification in a matter of six days. The new formula of the band includes pop hit sensation "Barbie Girl" which stormed the international music charts accompanied by a lawsuit from Mattel, the doll's manufacturer because of the sexual overtones associated with the said song.

In September of 1997, the band released their first full-length album Aquarium which also included the tracks "Dr. Jones" and "Turn Back Time".

In March 21, 2000, the band released their second album Aquarius which contained dance hits "Cartoon Heroes" and "Around The World".
