About
Anggun Cipta Sasmi was born in Jakarta, Indonesia last April 29, 1974. Her name means "A grace born out of a dream." This fantastic diva is well know by the name of Anggun.
Darto Dingo, her father was a famous singer and producer at the same time in Indonesia.Anngun followed the stpes of her father who is also a performer/singer.
At the age of 7 years old, she recorded her first album of children's song. During her 12 years of age, after becoming interested in rock music, she recorded "Dunia Aku Punya", which was her second heavily rock influenced album. The tiltle of the album means "World of Mine". As the album became very popular, she became a megastar in East Asia.
After the success of "Dunia Aku Punya", Anggun recorded new albums such as "Tua Tua Keladi in 1990", "Anak Putih Abu Abu" in 1991, "Noc Turno" in 1992 and "Anggun C.Sasmi...Lah!" in 1993.
As the carreer of this young rock diva success, she was also busy outside the sutdio, performing a number of extensive tours and gigs throughout Asia.
During her tour in Borneo, Anggun met her future husband name Michael Georgia. At first, her parents did not approve of her marriage, but eventually relented.
In 1994, Anngun decided to leave Indonesia in search for her luck in Europe. So the couple moved in London, but the following year they changed their plans and moved into an appartment in Paris. That time, she was still unknown in the Paris music scene. Anggun soon met Erick Benzi, a Frenc musician and producer.Benzi was impressed by Anggun's talent, he immediately offered to write an album with her and eventually managed persuade her to move away from her original rock influences and tried with a more sensual, romantic sound. Anggun's smooth new style prove her immediate progress in France.
Her new album "Au nom de la lune", released in 1997, featured a mix of tracks recorded in English, French and even two songs in Indonesian. But it was the phenomenal success of Anggun's single "La neige au sahara" (which rocketed to the top of the European charts and became one of the hits of Summer '97 in France) that would really establish the Indonesian star on the French music scene.
Following the chart success of "La neige au sahara" (Snow on the Sahara), Anggun's album would really take off - indeed, "Au nom de la lune" would soon go on to sell more than 150,000 copies in France and Belgium. The album "Au nom de la lune" not only rocketed Anggun to fame in France, it would also prove to be a major hit in the singer's homeland. Released under the title "Anggun", the album has gone on to sell well over 100,000 copies in Indonesia. The young diva's new repertoire of soft, romantic ballads certainly looks set to prove as popular with her Indonesian fans as her previous rock hits!
In 1998, Anggun toured with Sarah McLachlan and Erykah Badu among others, on the Lilith Fair tour. At the end of 2000 Anggun received an invitation from the Vatican, asking her to appear at a Christmas concert alongside a host of international stars including Bryan Adams.
In January 2003, she met France's Culture Minister and received at Midem, the international exhibition of the music industry, a prestigious Diamond Award for sales outside France reaching more than 1.2m copies, making her one of the best selling French music export success stories ever, among artists like Daft Punk, Air, Manu Chao, etc.

Reviews
It's nice to hear a new style of music, fresh and mixed between ethnic & modern. The lyrics is not only about love between the 2 genre, but more than that. Especially the Snow on Sahara song, I love this song very much. We're waiting for your live performance in Asia ! - Rjfortyfive - 11/20/2006
