Vanessa Olivarez was born on February 13, 1981 in Atlanta, Georgia. She started to sing at the age of 3. In 1997, she took up vocal lessons at Gwinnett School of Fine Arts. She performed the song "Bohemian Rhapsody" on her audition. After the contest proper, Vanessa wrote her first single, "The One". She also joined a musical group named, "Butterfly Stitch". She was the first one who was eliminated held in March 12, 2003.
