[edit] About

Alana Davis was born on May 6, 1974 in New York City. Daughter of jazz pianist Walter Davis, Jr. and singer Ann Marie Schofield. As a child, Alana learned how to play the guitar. At the age of 18 years old, she started writing her own songs. She attended Mohawk Valley Community College but left to pursue music full time. Alana’s demo tape landed at the hands of Elektra Records that offered her a contract. In 1997, she released her debut single, “32 Flavors”, which entered the Top 40 Billboard. It was followed by the release of her debut album, Blame It On Me.

Alana and Elektra had a disagreement on the direction of her music. Elektra wanted it to be pure R&B while Davis was reaching out to the mix influence approach. In 2001, Fortune Cookies was issued. The album had the very least amount of promotion. Alana switched to Tigress Records releasing her 2005 album Surrender Dorothy.
