Al Green is an American gospel and soul music singer who enjoyed great popularity in the early and mid 1970s. He became a gospel singer from 1981 to 1989. He even earned eight Grammy Awards as Best Gospel Performance. One of his gospel albums was The Lord Will Make A Way.

Al Green was born on April 13, 1946 in Forrest City, Arkansas. His father was a sharecropper. He started his inclined in music world at the age of nine. They formed a quartet called Greene Brothers.
In the mid-50's they moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan and was kicked out of the group by his father. When he was in high school, Al formed his own band called Al Greene & The Creations. Two of the members formed an independent label called Hot Line Music Journal. They are now called The Soul Mates. The band recorded a song Back Up Train which was released through their own recording outfit. The song was an R&B chart hit.
In 1969, Al met Willie Mitchell of Memphis Records. Willie has hired his as a vocalist for a Texas show with her own band and signed him a recording contract.
Al first album under Hi Records of Willie was Green is Blue. The album was a moderate success. His next album, Al Green Gets Next To You was a huge success. His single "Let's Stay Together" released in 1972 was a hit sensation. Another single of Al "Call Me" was a huge success.
In 1976, Al was ordained as pastor of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Memphis. He continued to record R&B album but did not already regain his popularity. Al shifted as a gospel singer in 1981; His first album was The Lord Will Make A Way. He released gospel albums from 1981 until 1989. He even garnered eight Grammy Awards as Best Gospel Performance.
In 2003, Al released his non-religious album entitled I Can't Stop, his first collaboration with Willie Mitchell since 1985's He is the Light. In 2004, Al was inducted into the Gospel Music Association's Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
