A1 was one of the most successful Biritsh boy bands in the late 90s. The band unfortunately disbanded after almost 5 years in the music industry because of an incident that happened when they were doing their concert.

About

The band's publicity focused on the fact that they write most of their songs and 3 out of 4 members can play musical instruments. The members of the band was Mark Read, Paul Marazzi, Ben Adams, and Christian Ingebrigsten. Read plays piano and drums, Adams plays the piano oboe and violin and Ingebrigsten plays piano and guitar. After an initial period during which the were successful in the UK singles chart, in autumn of 2000 two of their singles went number one in the charts in nine within nine weeks: Take on Me and Same Old Brand New You. The former was a revival of the A-ha's 1985 single, which itself only reached number two in the charts in 1986.

Unfortunately, the band decided to split because in the leg of the Indonesian tour, whilst they performed in a shopping mall called Taman Anggrek Mall, four teenage girls were killed in a stampede, thus making the band members upset and all of them consdiered leaving the band. Marazzi left the band citing personal reasons, Mark is still writing songs for different artists, Adams released his solo single Sorry which reached #18 in the UK singles chart and Ingebirgsten madi it big back in his hometown.
