5th Gear was released on June 19, 2007 under Arista Nashville records. The album hit no.3 on the on the Billboard 200 chart. The first single in the album "Ticks" became no.1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs and no.40 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The second single "Online" became no.1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs and no.1 on the Canadian Country Singles chart. The third single "Letter to Me" became no.1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts and the song represents the different aspects of Paisley's childhood.
