About
Rapper 50 Cent was born as Curtis James Jackson III on July 6, 1975 in South Jamaica, Queens, New York. 50 grew up in a broken home. His parents died when he was still young. His grandmother was the one who took care of him. In his teen years he began hustling just like his mother. He had constant visits to prison. 50 then turned away from crimes and went towards rapping. It was Run-D.M.C.'s Jam Master Jay, who gave 50 a record deal with JMJ Records label. Later on he met Trickmasters and signed him with Columbia since nothing much happened under JMJ Records label. From there they worked on his debut album, Power Of The Dollar. The singles "Your Life's on the Line", "Thug Love" and "How to Rob" were a hit. There were attempts to take 50's life. He was stabbed at the Hit Factory studio and an assassination was attempted in Jamaica, Queens. He was shot nine times with a 9mm pistol.
After two years, 50 formed a collective called G-Unit. This included Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo. They composed mixed tapes earning him a name in the streets of New York. Many mocked him such as Ja Rule and the others admired him like Eminem. Eminem wanted to sign him in. The following months 50 worked with Eminem and Dr. Dre. The controversial rapper was the most discussed in the music industry. He was jailed on New Year's Eve for gun possession. But the bad publicity didn't stop his album reaching up to 872,000 copies sold within five days. In 2003, G-Unit's debut album, Beg For Mercy, was released and it went Platinum. The album was a series of mixtapes with DJ Whookid. Lloyd Banks and Young Buck release their albums with 50 as their executive producer. In 2005, his third album, The Massacre was released.
