30 Seconds to Mars is an alternative Rock Band who rose to fame via their Certified Platinum Album, Beautiful Lie.

About

30 Seconds to Mars was formed in Los Angeles, California by the actor "Jay Leto" and his brother "Shannon". They recruited "Matt Wachter" on bass, "Kevin Drake" and "Solon Bixler" on drum and "Tomo Milicevic" to complete the line-up.


Their first self-titled debut album was released in 2002 under Virgin Records. It features two singles, "Capricorn (A Brand New Name)" which charted #31 on the US Mainstream Rock Chart and "Edge of The Earth".


Their next album, Beutiful Lie was released on August 2005 under Virgin Records. The album spawned three hit singles, "A Beautiful Lie", "The Kill" and "From Yesterday". The band won the MTV2 Award of the song, "The Kill" at the MTV Video Music Awards. The album was certified platinum. Last July 21, 2007, the band won the second place in the Jabra Music Best Band in the World contest, based on voting around the world.

  • The band's name comes from a thesis that the band found online that was written by a former Harvard Professor. One of the subsections of the thesis was titled, "Thirty Seconds To Mars".
